Estrogen-Replacement Therapy

« Back to Glossary Index

Estrogen-replacement therapy (ERT) is a form of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that is used to treat symptoms of menopause in women. ERT is used to replace the estrogen that the body is no longer producing due to menopause. ERT is typically prescribed to women who are experiencing symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and mood swings. ERT can also help to reduce the risk of osteoporosis and heart disease. ERT is usually taken in the form of a pill, patch, or gel.
