Endoscopy

« Back to Glossary Index

Endoscopy is a non-invasive medical procedure that uses an endoscope, a flexible tube with a light and camera at the end, to view the inside of the body. It is commonly used to diagnose and treat conditions in the digestive system, respiratory system, and urinary system.

Endoscopy

Endoscopy can be performed under local anesthesia, conscious sedation, or general anesthesia depending on the type and complexity of the procedure. Some of the most common types of endoscopy include upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, and cystoscopy. The procedure is generally safe, but like any medical procedure, it carries some risks, such as bleeding, infection, and perforation.
