Dual-Photon Absorptiometry

« Back to Glossary Index

Dual-photon absorptiometry (DPA) is a type of imaging technique used to measure bone mineral density (BMD). It is a non-invasive method of measuring the amount of calcium and other minerals in bones. DPA works by using two low-energy photons to measure the amount of calcium and other minerals in bones. The photons are absorbed by the bones and the amount of absorption is measured. This information is then used to calculate the BMD of the bones. DPA is a safe and accurate way to measure BMD and is used to diagnose and monitor osteoporosis.
