Cardiomyopathy

Cardiomyopathy is a chronic and progressive heart condition characterized by abnormalities in the structure or function of the heart muscle. This condition affects the heart’s ability to pump blood effectively to the rest of the body. There are various types of cardiomyopathy, including dilated, hypertrophic, restrictive, and arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia.

Symptoms may include shortness of breath, fatigue, swelling in the legs, and an irregular heartbeat. Causes can be genetic, acquired due to infections, certain medications, or other underlying health conditions. Treatment may involve medications, lifestyle changes, implanted devices like pacemakers or defibrillators, or, in severe cases, heart transplantation. Regular monitoring and management are essential to control symptoms and prevent complications. Stress cardiomyopathy broken heart syndrome due to its association with emotionally stressful events, such as the loss of a loved one or a traumatic experience.
